Port of Cleveland Approves Strategic Plan, Including Goal to Combat Climate Change
The Port of Cleveland has adopted a climate action plan that includes the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The emissions target, which align with those adopted by federal and local governments, is part of the port’s overall strategic plan for 2024 through 2028 that was approved by the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority on Thursday.
Other elements of the plan include a vision for creating jobs and growing the economy through increased container business and attracting cruise ships.
The Port of Cleveland includes the Cleveland Harbor along Lake Erie as well as a portion of the Cuyahoga River used by giant ore boats serving the Cleveland-Cliffs steel mill and that is also popular with recreational boaters and kayakers.
