Cleveland Apprenticeship Fair Resumes After COVID Pause
For the first time since October 2019, the Cleveland Building Trades Tradeswomen Committee hosted their Apprenticeship Fair.
The semi-annual event was paused in 2020 and the first part of 2021 for COVID-19 safety precautions.
After a year and a half pause, the apprenticeship fair resumed with an in-person event in mid-October at the Plumbers Local 55 Union Hall. The event drew more than 230 students and adults.
Doreen Cannon, Chairwoman of the Tradeswomen Committee, was happy with the turnout and noted COVID-19 safety precautions were followed, including masks.
“I think any event during the COVID-19 pandemic is different,” she said. “Not everyone is comfortable around a lot of people. Our career fair was open between 6 and 7:30 p.m. and people were given the opportunity to stop in at any time. This helped spread the crowd out.”
The event allowed attendees to meet with representatives from 14 different trades and organizations to discuss and learn more about careers in the union construction industry.
